Yoga and Meditation

YOGA AND MEDITATION AT BRITELIFE SOUTH CAROLINA

Yoga and meditation are two therapies clients can use to slow down, breathe, and quiet their anxieties. These alternative holistic therapies have proven to be particularly beneficial to addiction clients who have impulse control issues. According to the National Institute of Health, "yoga has been proven to reduce perceived stress, anxiety, improve physical and mental health." Moreover, addicts and alcoholics are very prone to being very reactionary. Yoga and meditation help clients find much needed pause before reacting. In addition, finding a place of calm within oneself is essential to connect with the spiritual side of things. It’s also one of the tenets of 12-step programs that most find attractive – peace and serenity.

At our South Carolina treatment center, we offer yoga classes throughout the week, which are all lead by a professional Hilton Head yoga instructor. Our classes emphasis on the development of mind-body connection, and small class sizes allow for instructors to work with each client individually. We also offer daily, guided meditation, teaching clients how to calm their minds as they strengthen their spiritual connection and grow their own perception of a “higher power.”

This spiritual element of recovery can be an obstacle for some, but we have found that when clients begin to explore (often through yoga and meditation) the term “higher power” means something for them personally, the obstacle diminishes. All that is required is a little bit of willingness.

DAILY MEDITATION TO SLOW THINGS DOWN

At BriteLife, we offer a full continuum of addiction treatment. While our importance is on evidence-based treatment modalities and addiction medicine, we also integrate alternative therapies such as guided or unguided mediation into our programs. Meditation is meant to enhance a client’s rehab stay and something they can bring home. Meditation improves concentration and helps clients to find peace. This is a complete opposite to the frenzied lives many clients experienced as addicts.

Guided and unguided meditation are popular in addiction treatment centers because it really helps clients remain calm as they face the rigors of substance use order treatment.
